Claudia & Carlos – a love story from Arizona
We’ve been together for a little over six years.
We both grew up in Arizona, but Claudia moved to California after high school to go to college and lived there for eight years. We actually grew up on the same street, but our neighborhoods were divided by a major road so we never met until we were adults.
We met through a mutual friend a few years before we started dating. At the time, I was living in California and Carlos was living in Arizona so even though we had a connection, neither of us thought much about starting a relationship. But every time I was in town to, Carlos would make sure to come out with our mutual friend to see me. We lost touch after a little while, but we reconnected over Facebook in 2009 and started dating long-distance until I moved to back to Arizona about a year later. Carlos always denied that I moved back for him, but even though I went to grad school, he was the real reason I moved.
Claudia is the type of person I want to become. She is very loving and caring for anyone or thing at any time. She is extremely hospitable to anyone she comes in contact with. She also has drive to see everything and experience everything the world has to offer.
I like that Carlos is always striving to be a better person and he wants everyone he knows to reach their full potential. I Ialso like that he makes me laugh and that I can be completely myself with him. We like to explore different places and do new things together, which usually includes eating good food and drinking wine. Whatever we do, our dog Charlie is usually with us. Sometimes we just like cuddle on the couch with Charlie and watch Netflix.
Carlos proposed during my 30th birthday celebration trip to go wine tasting in Napa. He surprised me by bringing all of our family and friends to San Francisco and taking a bus together to go wine tasting in Napa and Sonoma. I thought it was just a great birthday present until Carlos proposed at our second stop at Etude Winery in Napa. It was perfect.
THE WEDDING: Even though we live in San Francisco, most of our family is in Arizona so we got married in a lovely pecan grove in Phoenix called The Venue at the Grove. The most important thing we wanted for our wedding was to have everyone we loved in one place to have a great time. We wanted it to be beautiful, fun, and memorable. Our wedding was so much fun! It was also really beautiful because the venue was gorgeous and our planner has excellent taste. It was exactly what we wanted and our friends and family had a great time dancing the night away. We were engaged for about a year and a half, so we had plenty of time to plan. We got most of the big stuff out of the way right away and could mostly just relax until a few months before. It was great to have our planner, Vanessa because she helped with the styling and a lot of the DIY stuff. It made it SO much less stressful.
A wedding should be a celebration of love with all of the people that matter to you. Being surrounded by that love was more important to us than what things like the flowers and wedding dress looked like.
An advice we would give to a bride planning a wedding? Enjoy the planning process, it should be fun! Don’t get too hung up on and stressed out about the little things. Things may not go exactly as planned, but as long as at the end of the day, you marry the person you love and are surrounded by family and friends, that’s all that really matters.
