Kyla & Keegan – a Love Story from Wisconsin
We were in the same modern dance class my first year and Keegan's last semester at Knox College – We were both dating other people, and kept in touch casually once Keegan graduated, but were reunited Kyla's last semester in college when Keegan came back for a visit and we've been together for 4 years now. We complement each other nicely – Keegan is very level-headed and factual in aspects and situations where Kyla is overly enthusiastic and get ahead of myself. But we also laugh easily, and often. We're comfortable with each other, so we're silly but honest. We see a lot of theater and watch a lot of Netflix. We take lazy strolls with our dogs and frequent bars with friends.
"He is an actor with a mind for logic. He is so very flamboyant and self conscious, happy to be in the spotlight, but the most engaged listener you'll ever meet." (Kayla) "Kyla is an exuberant firecracker of a human being. She always expresses exactly what she's feeling and thinking, and her excitement about positive things is delightfully infectious. I think my favorite thing about Kyla is that she keeps me motivated and true to my goals. At the same time, she is the most thoughtful and caring person that I've ever met." (Keegan)
Keegan version: When Kyla and I started dating, I was immediately certain that she was the one for me. We were talking at all hours of the evening, and during those conversations I started bringing up the idea of marriage and a proposal. Kyla's competitive spirit cannot be bested, and, unbeknownst to me, she made it her mission to propose to me before I could propose to her. Just a few weeks into our relationship, when we were moving Kyla out of her college apartment, I turned around to find Kyla holding a ring. I was both excited and overwhelmed, but because I'm a bit of a traditionalist, I asked her to propose on one knee. She obliged, and I've been wearing her ring ever since.
THE PROPOSAL: Kyla version: Keegan proposed in turn about a year after dating – I woke up with a ring in front of my face. I was a little overwhelmed & not quite ready to deal with this event, & pretended to fall back asleep with the hopes that Keegan would give up & save the bling for another day. But he was persistent, & eventually caught on that I was awake. This game of cat and mouse got more & more obvious and ridiculous, with a lot of pillow throwing, shoving, & giggling, until Keegan requested that I be serious about the whole thing and made his speech.

Keegan: I think I've always wanted to get married, but I'd never really put together the specifics of a dream wedding. All I knew going into this was that I wanted a wedding where I got married to Kyla. Everything else was up for debate.
Kyla: I'd never envisioned, or wanted, a wedding – with anyone. I wanted to elope, just make it about the two of us.
Keegan: Kyla is absolutely right. We made the day about us, what we wanted, and keeping drama at an absolute minimum. It turned out fairly non-traditional, but it was exactly what we needed it to be: relaxed, fun, and full of love and support.
It was really important to us that we get to spend quality time with our guests – we didn't want anybody going out of their way to attend and then feel like they barely got time with us or accompanying friends. We also wanted to have quality food, from the homemade lamb stew and bread to the mac n cheese pizza. All while on a small, small budget! It was probably not on Keegan's radar, but Kyla was very excited to be keeping tabs on the trash, compost, and recycling all day & report that after such a huge event, we only had 3 grocery bags of rubbish that went to the landfill!
