Makeda & Raoul Brown – a Love Story from Vermont
Makeda is from Trinidad and Raoul is from Guyana but they lived on the same street in New York for years and never met. The passing of Raoul's mother, Brenda Brown, brought them together. Makeda's mom introduced her to Raoul on one of his many visits to her home and he later confessed he was looking for her. Raoul asked her out the second time they met and she said yes. It was during the holidays of 2008 and have been inseparable ever since. We love working out together. We love brunch; whether at home or some new spot we stumble upon. We love cooking at home for each other or for family and friends. We love to do pop-up dinners in our driveway or in our backyard. We love to go dancing. We love the days we commute to and from work together because we have time to talk. We love barefoot walks in the park. We love being near large bodies of water, there's something therapeutic about it.
"I love her smile and the sound of her laugh. She's giving and thoughtful and soothes the beast in me. Makeda is a singer… She will belt out a song at any moment. Makeda is a creator, an artist; a maker of things. I love when she tells jokes and cracks herself up before the punch line. That always cracks me up. I love that she's honest, trustworthy and loving." – Raoul
"I like how organized Raoul is in life and in our relationship. Sometimes I like to chill and in order to get things done sometimes being chill doesn't always work, he helps me stay on track. I love that I can be completely honest with him about everything. We are at that point in our relationship where we can tell each other anything and everything and we don't have secrets. I love that!" – Makeda
THE PROPOSAL This was interesting! Raoul was very sneaky and he enlisted the help of my family in California. We arrived in California on 12/26/2014 and Raoul popped the question the following day in Big Sur State Park in front of Phiffer Falls. He was so nervous he didn't wait for my answer before putting the ring on my finger. I love teasing him about that.
We got married at our family farm Smokeshire Hilltop Farm in Chester, Vermont It was fantastic! We enlisted the help of our family and friends and they were so happy to help. We planned everything over the course of 18 months and Raoul was the grand architect, while I was working and in school full time. He closed his photography studio for the last 6 months and told me not to worry he got this. He's very visual and took his ideas from Pinterest. He created boards for all 3 days of our wedding events. Friday rehearsal dinner, Saturday, our wedding day – the ceremony and reception and Sunday the all white attire survivors brunch. He took care of everything expect the flowers and the wedding cake- he drew the line there. He cc'ed me on all emails and when he picked me up from school at nights we would discuss my class and how wedding planning was going. I love when our vendors gave him feedback on how he's doing a great job and even offered him jobs. It was a lot of hard work and we couldn't have done it without our friends and family. We had help from so many people to make our wedding dream a reality. We had a lot of surprises for our guests and our family. It really made us feel so blessed.
