Kallie & Christopher – a love story from Indiana
During Christmas break of 2011, I was stressed out and in the middle of the second year of my Master's degree in flute performance, and I just wanted someone to take me on a date. I met Christopher (aka tree_arms101) on OkCupid. We met in person the day before Christmas Eve for sushi and beer in Owensboro, KY, and we've been together ever since! To say Christopher is a trooper is an understatement. I was living near Nashville at the time we met, and he drove 3 hours every weekend (one way!) for nearly 4 months to see me. He had already applied and been accepted to graduate schools for psychology in KY, but when I decided to move to Tallahassee, FL to pursue my doctorate at FSU, he simply applied to more schools further south to be nearer to me; no questions asked. For two years, he drove 4 hours every weekend (one way!) from Georgia to Florida to be with me. Now we live happily together in Tallahassee with our cat, Beena Christopher and I are homebodies for sure, but we LOVE food, especially brunch, so most of our activities revolve around eating!
"Christopher is a warm, gentle, and patient man. His calming presence and quiet confidence, his authenticity and genuineness, his emotional intelligence, and his sense of duty and loyalty to me, his friends, and his family are all things I love about him. But what I love most about Christopher is that he makes me feel deserving of love, and he shows his love for me every day." – Kellie
Christopher kind of hinted at our proposal. He told me to make sure my schedule was clear on a particular Monday in June 2014. I dressed up and was on guard the whole day, but it never happened, so I got frustrated and changed into comfy clothes and was a little irritable to be honest! He said he wanted to go out for dessert crepes, so we got those and headed over to a park in Tallahassee. I found out later that Christopher had actually reserved the whole park for us that evening, but when we arrived, there was another couple hanging out. I could tell Christopher was mad. We sat at a bench and ate our crepes while silently wishing the trespassers to go away, haha! When they finally left, Christopher took me by the hand and led me around the park. We sat at a little table in front of a historic home on the property that had one single rose on it. He said he wanted to take pictures of me looking off at the enormous oak tree, and when he said he was done and I turned around, he was down on one knee! My parents came into town to visit the following day, so getting to tell them the news in person was extra special.
"Kallie is genuine and independent. She values honesty, is loyal to her friends, and she loves and respects her parents. When something is important to her, she fully invests in it, showing her dedication and unwillingness to quit. But I truly love how supportive she is of me. I can always count on her guidance. She has a contagious laugh that makes me and others laugh with her, and her beauty on the outside is as rich as it is on the inside." – Cristopher
Our wedding was perfection and went off without a hitch. I still can’t believe how beautiful everything was, and we felt so honored to have so many of our friends and family there, especially those that traveled from so far away just to celebrate with us!
We did the majority of the planning for our southern Indiana wedding from Florida! I was in the last year of my doctoral degree at Florida State University and Christopher was working full time in Tallahassee, so we weren’t able to make it home very often to do “in-person” planning. We were very lucky to have such supportive families in Kentucky that were able to make phone calls and visit vendors on our behalf when we couldn’t be there ourselves. But there is so much you can do online now, that long-distance planning was not a huge issue, and we had so much trust in our venue and vendors that the planning was surprisingly low stress!
For us, it was keeping everything as authentic and true to our personalities as possible. Since I am a professional musician, the ceremony music was really important to me. Christopher and I picked out songs together and I, along with a couple friends, arranged all of the music, and we were so honored to have our talented friends play for us. From the music, to our wedding script, to the donut bar, we wanted everything to reflect our personal tastes and interests.
